• Teaching Workshop.

A few Saturdays’ ago I put on a workshop for the preschool teachers here at Mt. Kenya Baptist School.

It was a way to encourage and uplift them before the new school year begins (in January), and to teach them some new strategies.

It was so much fun! I loved doing it, and I am beyond excited that I am able to use my degree all the way in Kenya to teach other teachers!  God is so good!

Here was what our day looked like:

WHAT A SUCCESSFUL CLASSROOM LOOKS LIKE:

    Introduction: Development Chart:

    Positive Learning Environment:

    • Motivation

    Variety of Teaching Strategies:

    • Learning Styles

    • Specific strategies for all learners

    Parental Involvement:

That outline could have been a 2 week workshop, but I had to fit it into 6 hours! The teachers were great though, and even though all of our brains were exhausted by 2pm, they were attentive and grateful.

I hope and pray that the teachers learned something that they can implement into their new classes that are starting up next month!

Oh….and we had 2 very special guests with us at our home during this time.  Molly and Aaron.  Aaron grew up here in Kenya; his parents are missionaries in Nairobi.  Molly met Aaron when they both studied abroad in Egypt.  Aaron was coming to stay with his parents for a few months and invited Molly to come with him. She is volunteering at schools and orphanages in Nairobi….oh, and she grew up with my very dear friend, Danielle Meredith (who is the one that connected us all)!  I love how this all worked out!  Aaron and Molly came and stayed with us at our home for a week, and we loved having them!

Since Molly has a teaching degree in Elementary Education as well, she helped me plan and teach the workshop.  I can honestly and humbly say that I could not have done it without her…seriously!!  The Lord knew what he was doing when he crossed our paths!
